Job Description:

An interesting opportunity has become available for a Maintenance Fitter at Currie & Warner Ltd, Birmingham. The role, in time will branch out leading to some involvement with our sister company located in the Brownhills area. Your primary role will be to repair and maintain our Wickman multi-spindle automatic lathes to a level that allows efficient, volume production of quality components.

Other Requirements:

> Ability to understand engineering drawings.

> Ability to keep records detailing the maintenance history of each machine.

> Follow, and in some cases help develop Preventative Maintenance Plans.

> Be familiar with the common Toolroom machinery such as centre lathe, milling machine and surface grinder.

Who we’re looking for:

Coming from an engineering background and preferably apprentice trained, you will have experience in the maintenance of Wickman multi spindle autos or similar automatic lathes, and be familiar with the way in which they operate. Where required, training will be provided. You must be enthusiastic with a can-do attitude, embracing some traditional methods whilst also bringing suggestions to improve the company’s efficiency & output. Being one of two people working in the Maintenance department, teamwork will play a large part in the success of this appointment and you must therefore have excellent communication skills and possess the ability to work with others and alone.

Overtime will be available as required and although it is not compulsory, you will be expected to be available (sometimes at short notice) to work extra hours to ensure the manufacturing requirements of our production facility are satisfied at all times.

Works Engineer

Job Description:

An exciting opportunity has become available for a Works Engineer to be based at our Birmingham manufacturing facility.  The role, in time will branch out leading to some involvement with our sister company located in the Brownhills area.  Your main responsibilities will include the overseeing of maintenance on both plant and building whether it be carried out by our in-house maintenance team or by external contractors.

You will be familiar with the latest health & safety procedures and associated documents such as Permit to Work and Risk Assessments.

It would be desirable to have experience of working at an organisation that comply with ISO14001 (Environmental Standard) and be familiar with operating within the constraints of all current legislation that is applicable to the business.

As a qualified electrician, you will be required to carry out electrical maintenance, installations and repairs.

Other Responsibilities Include:

> To liaise with external auditing companies such as Allianz Cornhill.

> Overseeing of annual contacts such as pest control, protective clothing (overalls) and cleaning companies.

> Security:  Liaison with Chubb Security and in the event of a security breach be available for call out. (Company Key-Holder).

> Organising the repair, service and MOT of company vans.

> Monitor and record utilities usage, (electricity, water, gas).

> To become a member of both the H&S Management Team and the Environmental Committee assisting the SHEQ Manager in on-going objectives and improvements.  This will include carrying out portable appliance testing, review of training requirements (i.e. FLT training) and ensuring that any statutory requirements that affect the building or plant are carried out.

> Responsible for plant movement and installation.

> Oversee waste removal contractors.

> To raise appropriate paperwork and seek authorisation for expenditure where it is required.

> To periodically review the competitiveness of contracts and services used by the company and propose improved alternatives to the General Manager.

  Toolmaker

Job Description:

An interesting opportunity has become available for a Toolmaker to join our manufacturing facility located in central Birmingham.  Your primary role will be based in the company’s Toolroom department and will require you to repair, maintain and manufacture tooling accurately for all machining facilities throughout the company in a safe but efficient manner that maximises output as required by the Works Manager.  This will be primarily cutting tools but will also include machine spares, work holding equipment and gauges.

Other Responsibilities to Include:

> Understanding of engineering drawings.

> Except for your trial period, quality control checks will not be carried out on your work and you will therefore be responsible for both the quality and accuracy of all that you produce in the Toolroom.

> Manufacture of machine spares for company’s maintenance department. 

Who we’re looking for:

You will come from a toolmaking background ideally with experience in cutting tools such as form drills, form tools, machine drills & taps manufactured from high speed steel and carbide.  You will be familiar with the common Toolroom machinery; centre lathe, milling machine, surface grinder, shaper and centreless grinder.  Experience on optical profile grinding is preferred but not essential and where it is required, training will be provided.  You must be enthusiastic with a can-do attitude, embracing some traditional Toolroom methods whilst also bringing suggestions to improve the department’s efficiency & output.  Being one of two people working in the Toolroom, teamwork will play a large part in the success of this appointment and you must therefore have excellent communication skills and possess the ability to work alone and with others.

Working in a busy manufacturing environment producing precision brass turned components, you role will be to change over machines with regard to tooling and attachments.
